  • BOLD TERN DOMINATES SKYLINE
  • Bold tern prepares next employment at the inner port of Zeebrugge

Bold Tern …. Obviously not your every-day type of vessel. Designed by Gusto ( NL ) and built in Dubai by Lamprel Wharf, this state of the art carrier - owned & operated by the Norwegian company Fred Olsen Windcarrier - has been the talk of the town these last few months.

The vessel has been specifically designed to both carry and install wind mill parts ( from piles to rotors to blades ). And what assists the vessel to do so, are the enormous four spuds on each corner ( each weighing in at 920 Ton and height of 78,40 meter ), as well as the impressive crane which can lift up to 800 Ton !

Locally, she has been commissioned to transport and build the world’s largest offshore windmill at Belwind location. These parts were stored, loaded and transported out of Ostend Port, the hub for offshore activity outside our coastline. Vessel called Ostend twice, firstly to mobilize and load the parts, secondly to offload and partially demobilize. In both occasions Hoppe Maritime Group acted as Agents, as did we assist in formalities and making plenty of arrangements whilst vessel was out at sea.

Once finished with her operations, the vessel moved over from Ostend to Zeebrugge Port, where she berthed at the inner harbour, this being her new temporary home from November to February.

During this period, both company and crew took advantage to further demobilize from last project and already commence preparations for any possible future project. In simply viewing the sheer size of the vessel, one can guess plenty of items and services were to be arranged through our Agency.

Upon receiving new voyage orders, the vessel moved over to Euroservices Terminal for the last few days of their port stay and departed from Zeebrugge on 06/02/2014, destination Bremerhaven.
